👍 Authors should consider submitting to Small Presses that are Traditional Publishers and operate similarly to conglomerates like Hachette, Penguin/Randon House, Harper Collins, Macmillan, Oxford and other national houses.
👍 Most Small Presses accept authors based on talent and quality of work and all publishing and most promotional expenses are covered by Small Presses. These presses never ask authors to pay. Vanity Presses do and often produce poor quality books.
👍 Authors must therefore be talented with relatable, sellable books since Small Presses subsist on grants, awards, donations, subscriptions, book sales, etc., but never traditionally by charging authors. Tip: many universities have Small Presses manned by their writing departments and host annual contests and invite authors to submit their work. Do some research!
